Entergy Premium

Not sure if they're planning to make a similar offer to Superdome officials but Entergy and the city remind you they do have ways to take advantage of mitigate their own inability to keep city streetlights illuminated.

In a city that can take years to repair its broken streetlights, an Entergy representative at a recent community meeting where that suggestion was made spoke offered his own solution: For a monthly fee, Entergy will install and maintain what it calls a security light to illuminate any dark areas in front of a customer’s home.

This is similar to the playbook in place that enables our ridiculous system of private security patrols around town. First, neglect a basic taxpayer funded service. Then, come back and offer a supposedly "enhanced" version of that service to the few who can afford them.

Much like the faux-po patrols, an extra floodlight may or may not actually make your home any safer.  But it does create a luxury peace-of-mind product that might make you feel a bit safer anyway.
